(And I read your list and thought-DAG I never had to replace my fire extinguisher--how do I do that?) It sounds like the list in TX is much more exhaustive than the one in ME. I adopted, and gave birth, and found both processes to be exactly what I was ready for at that moment-and brought the nut jobs I was meant to mother to me in the way they came.
IMO there are never enough good parenting classes either!
Keep writing--you have a strong engaging voice too!Mama C/Catherinehttp://mamacandtheboys.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8434051313035946945.post-90744878952294700782010-11-21T00:45:03.209-05:002010-11-21T00:45:03.209-05:00There are some similarities and differences - havi...There are some similarities and differences - having gone through 2.5 years of infertility treatments and 14.5 months on an adoption waiting list. Similarities - I'm preparing just like a pg woman - nursery, baby stuff, thinking of names, researching insurance, preparing for FMLA, making a registry, researching daycare, every month I get an update from my caseworker and I wait for good news like a woman waits for a positive pg test. The differences - adoption can be much more expensive than ttcing if you have good insurance, with adoption you do not go through the physical misery of fertility treatments - for me, it's been much easier to deal with the emotional stuff because I'm not feeling awful from hormones etc. With adoption the wait is generally longer than nine months - although of course, ttcing can take a long time as well. The biggest difference is that when you're giving birth, you can control the baby's womb environment and have input into the potential gene pool - not so with adoption - the birth mom could have been drinking, doing drugs, eating terribly, not had enough pre-natal care, etc. It's one of the reasons adoption was not my first choice, but ultimately it was my only choice because of immune issues.LeslieCnoreply@blogger.com
